966 - 1795 Poland in the time of kings; two great dynasties: Piast and Jagiellon, I Republic of Poland
1795 - 1918 Poland under Partitions disappears from the map of Europe for 123 years
1918 - 1939 Poland regains independence and becomes a free state again, II Republic of Poland
1939 - 1945 World War II, Poland under Nazi and communist occupation
1945 - 1989 People's Republic of Poland dependent on the communist USSR
1989 until now - III Republic of Poland
